[[SPOILER ALERT: Gone Girl Plot Details]]
My wife and I just finished watching Gone Girl, a disturbing detective’s tale about a troubled marriage, one in which both the husband and wife are dishonest, depraved, despicable, and degenerate. The conclusion of the film depicts the cheating husband and scheming wife who came together through mere infatuation and grew apart for all the familiar reasons deciding to stay together in the end.
Despite the living hell his wife put him through, despite his complete loss of warm feelings for this calculating and murderous self-obsessed train wreck of a wife, and even despite his unborn child having been conceived through trickery, the husband proves an unlikely hero in the final act. He achieves this by completely abandoning all of his ambitions and desires to remain a father to his unborn child, providing a simulacrum of a normal and healthy marriage for both his child and the outside world.
A more perfect rendition of Spengler’s Roman soldier whose sense of duty held him firmly to his post as the volcano erupted around him couldn’t be possible in the modern age. The film didn’t broach religiosity or engage traditional principles, and just about every moviegoer except myself was most likely hoping for him to escape from her clutches, protect himself, and leave her and her unborn child (whom she would have most likely casually aborted, anyway) to fend for themselves.
But that’s not what it means to be a thoroughbred.
A parent’s love for his or her child is just about the only redeeming love worthy of the name left in the modern world, a fixed biological instinct capable of serving as a guidepost toward nobility and God which our society has yet to entirely subvert. It’s not the infatuation that brought the “marriage” together in the first place, the obsessive fixation of the hapless beta orbiter whose lust sealed his fate, or the “happy marriage” shtick which the wife’s ego and vanity craved.
American conservatives claim they wish to defend the institution of marriage, but do they really? Or are they merely hoping to defend the contemporary parody of marriage, with its foundations of infatuation and lust, its quickie divorces, and its focus on serving one another rather than serving God through one another? Gay marriage, interracial marriage, trophy wives, sugar daddies, and mail-order mystery meat marriages aren’t betrayals of the conservative American vision of marriage; they’re a disturbing look in the mirror at what “marriage” has meant in the West for decades.
Only a people who can watch Gone Girl and actually root for the survival of the marriage in the final scene is capable of defending itself against the encroachment of “gay marriage” and the even more perverse abominations on deck. Probate Judge Nick William’s defiant statement that “I’m not worried about following the U.S. Constitution” when the corrupt law of this godless country demanded that he “marry” homosexuals is precisely the spirit we need to carry us through this crisis and toward a virtuous and fruitful post-American future. Death to America, and all its pompous parchments.
Just as Gone Girl‘s husband fought every fabric of his being telling him to escape and defied his twin sister’s pleas to protect himself, we must commit to the daunting task of rejecting the United States Constitution, the “American Dream”, our fortunes and careers, our friendships and reputations, and even our own lives if necessary to honor and abide our sacred marriages, our religious traditions, and our fidelity to our extended family of ethnic kin.
The Republican Party has once again showed the people that they claim to represent that they have no interest in engaging in the culture war or standing by their own stated positions in defense of Traditional marriage. While States like Alabama passed amendments to their State constitutions to enshrine Traditional marriage as the only form of marriage by an overwhelming percentage of the people, the Republican Establishment are more interested in shipping more jobs overseas, fighting more wars for Israel, and bringing in millions of Third world immigrants to America than defending our bedrock institution.
The culture war would mean that Republican lawmakers would have to take a stand and perhaps even face criticism from the Far Left, something they are unwilling to do.
Conservatism is merely the shadow of liberalism as pointed out by Stonewall Jackson’s chaplain, Robert Lewis Dabney when he said “American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward towards perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. … Its impotency is not hard, indeed, to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It intends to risk nothing serious, for the sake of the truth, and has no idea of being guilty of the folly of martyrdom.”
There are very few men or women that have taken as public a stand for Traditional Christian values as Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore. While I certainly do not agree with all of his positions, Roy Moore has refused to compromise his principles in an age of almost near total capitulation of lawmakers and politicians to the desires of the elites.
Chief Justice Roy Moore began his fight for Christian principles when he was a attacked by various Leftist degenerates for opening the day in his courtroom with a prayer. Judge Moore also had the Ten Commandments in his courtroom which he defended by saying “I wanted to establish the moral foundation of our law.” All Truth and justice comes from God and the principles that were established in Scripture, a sentiment that most Christians believed and defended until the modern era of cultural relativism and modernity.
Judge Moore says that the law he was upholding and his position came from God and that he should honor and follow both God and the values given to Christians to maintain a Christian society. In generations past Judge Moore would just be a normal Southerner, but in the modern American culture he is viewed as a “dangerous fundamentalist” as one pro-gay group called him because he truly tries to walk the walk when it comes to his Faith.
The ACLU began harassing Judge Moore back in 1995 for opening his courtroom in prayer and promoting Christian values from the bench. While the overwhelming majority of Alabamians supported Judge Moore and his views on Christianity in the courtroom, the Jewish-led ACLU was far more interested in persecuting Christians than upholding the judge’s right to freedom of speech and expression. While most judges would cower in fear when the ACLU and Leftist groups showed up threatening lawsuits, Judge Moore refused to back down and instead took his case to the American people and the citizens of Alabama, winning him widespread praise from normal people and unceasing condemnation from the elites and their far Left foot soldiers.
Judge Moore ran into conflict with the Left again when he ruled in favor of a father for custody when the mother had outed herself as a practicing lesbian involved in frequent homosexual behavior. Judge Moore wrote in his opinion that “Homosexual behavior is a ground for divorce, an act of sexual misconduct punishable as a crime in Alabama, a crime against nature, an inherent evil, and an act so heinous that it defies one’s ability to describe it. That is enough under the law to allow a court to consider such activity harmful to a child. To declare that homosexuality is harmful is not to make new law but to reaffirm the old; to say that it is not harmful is to experiment with people’s lives, particularly the lives of children.” His comment would have been viewed as a normal Christian opinion even two decades ago when President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, signed into law the Defense of Marriage Act and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
Philosopher Julius Evola insisted that the ideas of Traditionalism were the mainstream view of the world, something that “before the French Revolution, every well-born person considered sane and normal.” We live in an age of insanity in which what is normal and righteous is called “extremist” and “backwards.” To actually defeat the “Progressives”, we must do far more than merely stand in their way and slow their advance, as the conservatives unreliably do from time to time. We must proudly and passionately race “backwards”, all the way back to first principles and transcendent ideals, all the way back into the arms of Christ. Only from that starting point, armed with the spirit, scripture, and sacred tradition, will our marriages, our families, our communities, and our nations have any hope to achieve true progress.
