Recently I have been working on a larger piece for the upcoming anniversary of Sam Francis’s death, and it got me wondering which writers of the here-and-now could perhaps be called “the next Sam Francis” or “our Sam Francis.” Admittedly, I am unsure if there will or even could be another. Jared Taylor once wrote that:
Our generation will not produce another Sam Francis. The few who could have matched him in learning and brilliance will not have his courage; those who have his courage will lack his brilliance.
Regardless, if I had to cast a vote for an intellectual heir of the man, it would be for James Kirkpatrick. Like Sam Francis, Mr. Kirkpatrick is a refugee from “Conservatism Inc,” has a keen interest in the American South that he does not allow to become an obsession, and has religious beliefs that set him apart from many of his colleagues.
