Weekend Link-Out: James Kirkpatrick

Samuel Francis (April 29, 1947 - February 15, 2005) was an American nationally syndicated columnist known for his opposition to immigration and multiculturalism. Francis was also a leading political theorist of paleoconservatism. He was often characterized as a reactionary conservative and a Machiavellian.

Recently I have been working on a larger piece for the upcoming anniversary of Sam Francis’s death, and it got me wondering which writers of the here-and-now could perhaps be called “the next Sam Francis” or “our Sam Francis.” Admittedly, I am unsure if there will or even could be another. Jared Taylor once wrote that:

Our generation will not produce another Sam Francis. The few who could have matched him in learning and brilliance will not have his courage; those who have his courage will lack his brilliance.

Regardless, if I had to cast a vote for an intellectual heir of the man, it would be for James Kirkpatrick. Like Sam Francis, Mr. Kirkpatrick is a refugee from “Conservatism Inc,” has a keen interest in the American South that he does not allow to become an obsession, and has religious beliefs that set him apart from many of his colleagues.  Below are some of his greatest hits:

Diversity Is Strength! It’s Also The End Of Southern Civility… And The South

Tom Clancy’s American Dream

Conor Friedersdorf, Conservatism, Inc, And Kiddie Cons Who Won’t “Read, Say, Or Think” Anything Un-PC

CPAC 2013: Conservatism Inc. vs. Libertarianism Inc.?

No Way Out But Through—Jason Richwine And The Future of Conservatism Inc.

    I agree (FWIW).

In the same constellation: Joseph Sobran, & Revilo P. Oliver. There are also some pretty smart and insightful cookies over @ http://therightstuff.biz/ and http://theden.tv/.

  • They are both dead too. The paleo scene is drying up, NPI won’t be around much longer either, it’s a money pit.

Actually, I think our paleo numbers are growing. Leftoid “tolerance” serves as a splendid recruiter for our side.

You want to see something really new that will help all of us? Check out the writings of Tom Dahlberg and Erick Kaardal who are developing Neopopulism as the cure to moribund, liberalized conservatism and liberal tyranny. They have a few books on Amazon. They essentially want the people to take back their government from experts and run it themselves based on their common sense, common language, and religious traditions. Conservatism and Liberalism rest on a foundation of rationalism that has been exploded and disproven for going on a hundred years, but we still act as if it were intact. Traditionalists need to embrace their inherent, inherited post-modernism (say Kaardal and Dahlberg) and reject political leaders, institutions, and experts that seek to exercise authority based on rationalist expertise. The conservative idol Edmund Burke takes it on the chin as an advocate for aristocratic expertise in government and culture, and Lincoln takes it on the chin as the symbol of the moral expertise of the federal government. Neopopulism as Counterculture is extremely instructive. They also have a Restoration Constitution and various pamphlets.

Those who identify as paleo may find a solider foundation in Neopopulism, Hopefully leftists will also swear off their allegiance to Reason and their devotion to the superior expertise of the cognoscenti and will identify with the people’s cultural, linguistic, and religious traditions. Leftists, you’ll find plenty of elite criminals to skewer even after you switch sides!
