“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” – Proverbs 31:10

In this day and age of moral relativism, Modernism, and spiritual decay, many accuse the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church of being “old fashioned” and out of step “with the times”. The accusations sometimes even come from those who rest in the very bosom of Christ’s Church, enjoying Her Sacraments and warm embrace while undermining the very Inspired Dogma and Doctrines that actually define Her. They enter the Ark of Salvation with no appreciation for the Gifts and the teachings of the Very Bride of Christ.

Then there are those outside of the Church who constantly criticize and attack Her for safeguarding the very souls of Her members. These would include the myriad of antichrist and secular powers who are bound and determined to cast doubt upon the very foundations that had built European Civilization and made Europe see her utmost potential. Indeed, any civilization that has embraced the Church has become the better for it.

I am speaking specifically of European Civilization particularly, due to the simple fact that it has historically been the Banner Bearer for Christ. I am a man of European descent, and, as the minority of the world’s population, I am concerned for the preservation of the people and things I hold dear to me. As such, I feel that the powers of Darkness that attack true Christians everywhere in the world have a special hatred for those of us who belong to what was traditionally known as Christendom.

God, in His Infinite Wisdom, and for whatever reason known to Him alone, decided to spread the Faith that initially only a tiny remnant of Galileans and Judeans believed in. First to the Greeks, then to the Romans, and onward it spread throughout Europe so thoroughly that eventually Europe and Christendom became synonymous terms.

Through the blessings of our God, and not merely by genetics (although this defined us as well) Christian European Civilization became a mighty force for Light in a world of pagan and satanic Darkness. Now, after millennia, this Darkness descends upon us again. The same spirit of Nimrod, who built the Tower of Babel, wishes to enslave us, and exterminate all uniqueness and diversity of God’s Creation, and stamp out the Name of Jesus Christ once and for all.

One particularly insidious way the Adversary has tried to destroy us, and the Church, is through attacking its Patriarchal foundations of which our societies flourished under in times past. Feminism – a vile and satanic doctrine of total inversion of Divine Order- was created by antichrist forces to absolutely subvert and destroy the building block of all communities and nations, the nuclear family unit.

They sold the lie to our women that they were being treated unfairly, that there should be no distinction among genders, and that a woman’s place is no longer in the home safeguarding the souls of their children, but among the ruthless cut-throat world of business and industry. They made our women believe that it isn’t good to obey their husbands, but it is instead good to obey a male who is a total stranger – her boss at work.

Then they also accuse, and still do, the Church and Classical Christianity, for “oppressing women” and somehow relegating them to some sort of second-class citizenship in Christian society. This, of course, is an absolute falsehood. If anything, Christianity liberated women from their Pharisaical Jewish and Pagan societies where they were no more than mere chattel. Jesus Christ held several women near and dear to Him and in the utmost regard.

We Orthodox Christians cannot help but notice all the women, saints, and martyrs that adorn our parish walls during the Divine Liturgy, or how Christ’s Holy Mother, Mary, the Theotokos (or Mother of God) holds a special place of reverence among the Orthodox faithful. We love our women, and see godly women as being the most precious beings that are among us. Godly women and godly men both understand that we all have our roles to fill, and both these roles are equally important, and equal in worth. In fact, the role of the woman may be of even a higher worth, as the nurturers and bearers of our descendants!

Hardly can the traditional role of the woman be regarded as inferior! What a lie from the pits of hell! From the Ever-Virgin Mary’s affirmation of her role as Mother of God, to the many martyrs and holy women who came after her; who suffered death and torture for the Faith; who turned from lives of sin to lives of holiness, giving us all an example of obedience; we see the integral role the Holy Women of Christendom played in giving us a balanced perspective on how utterly important both genders are to Christian Civilization.

The laws and traditions handed down to us from Christ, the Apostles, and the Church Fathers concerning the unique roles men and women hold in Christendom are for the betterment of the family, the community, and the nation. It is not meant to demean or belittle, for surely as a Christian woman is expected to do what is required of her, even moreso does that apply to the Christian man. As it was written, “Wives, obey your husbands, and husbands, love your wives, as Christ so loved the Church!” Europe once was great understanding what true Patriarchy was about. It is not enough to merely expect women to fulfill their God-given roles if men do not fulfill their God-given roles.

Our roles as men are not to be mere tyrants and overlords, but responsible and loving leaders in the home. The husband and the wife may have unique roles to fulfill, but they are a team, both equally vital to the existence of a family unit. Both are responsible in putting Christ at the center of their lives, in submission to Him, for His Divine Order to operate properly. We speak of a marriage as the Two becoming One flesh.

I love all of God’s Creation, and hate the evil and wickedness that wishes to subvert, distort, and destroy it. That being said, I love my kindred European women especially, as they are members of my extended family, and hold a beauty that is unique in this world. I sincerely hope and pray through the intercession of the Mother of God, and such great female saints like St. Elizabeth the New Martyr, St. Mary of Egypt, St. Barbara the Great, and so many others too numerous to mention, that our women no longer suffer under the sinister spell of the Apostate Jewesses like Bella Abzug and Gloria Steinem who sold them a fraudulent ideology of schism and destruction in the name of womanhood. The Women of Christendom are indeed precious, and the women of our clans and tribes surely far above rubies, as history has shown. May things once again be righted, our paths straightened, and our men act like real men again, so our women can act like real women.

Beautiful article! We must restore the most damaging schism effected by our enemies, that of the bond between men and women. It has taken a lifetime of unlearning the lies of do what makes you “happy” and that a woman’s power is in feeble attempts to become man, for me to understand what sacrifice, love, and womanhood really mean.
Broken homes, women working long hours in grueling jobs, loss of chivalry, security, and the love and dedication of our men,has reduced women to reactionary wannabes and stripped us of the immense and God given power we once exemplified.
True femininity is a stoic sacrifice that maintains the sanctity of the woman, the family, and the soul of the nation.
I found the ultimate example of Gods creation of womanhood in the Holy Theotokos, mother of God, when I found the Orthodox church. To witness the Theotokos, the ideal of womanhood, who holds the highest position of reverence among all mankind, more honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim, wearing a head covering with Jesus in her arms. I finally understood the power in obedience.
There have been many sincere attempts by our men to debunk the lies of femanism. In calling on men to strive towards true masculinity, and describing the beauty of true femininity as it is explained and sanctified in our Holy Orthodox church, you have returned some of that power through truth. Thank you!
May St. Elizabeth, and our Holy Theotokos, intercede to guide our woman towards the highest form of their destiny.
